Don’t wait for an impending storm to get your vehicle in shape for bad weather. Investing some time in advance can keep you safe and save you big headaches.
Take a Look Inside Your Owner’s Manual
Not sure how to start the winterization process? Check the manual. The manufacturer has information about maintenance schedules, fluid replacement, and more. It includes instructions on a variety of things you can probably do yourself, from changing your windshield wipers to checking your tires for excessive wear.
Create an Emergency Kit
Put together a supply of items to have ready in case you get stuck. Include a flashlight, extra batteries, energy bars or other snacks, water, and a blanket. Make sure you have a cellphone charger too. If you drive in an area that gets snow, add a small shovel and sand or kitty litter.
Get Professional Maintenance
Now is a great time to get your oil changed and other fluids, like brake and transmission, checked. Ask to have belts, brake pads, and other essential mechanical parts examined. If it’s been a while since your battery has been inspected, get that done too.
